I Swapped Out My Entire Skincare Routine for Trader Joe's Products

Trader Joe Products

After substituting my skincare for all-natural alternatives, drugstore products, and popular French pharmacy picks, I guess you could say I'll try anything for seven days. It's that adventurous nature that led to me the beauty aisle at Trader Joe's. After discovering that it's secretly stocked with all-natural, good-for-you products with a cult following (who knew?), I had to get in on the action. I decided to swap out my usual skincare products in favor of a few recommended products from TJ's and record my thoughts. Below, find honest reviews of each of my purchases, and see if my skin freaked out in the process. Spoiler: It didn't.

Trader Joe's Spa Natural Facial Cleansing Pads With Tree Oil $13.00

Recommended by our former wellness editor and now contributing writer, Victoria, these face wipes were my first pick. They're formulated to be strong yet soothing to the skin—with tea tree oil, witch hazel, and chamomile—and they come in a convenient little pack. I used them in lieu of my usual cleanser, which wasn't the best idea; they're a bit drying. They were perfect, however, for a midday pick-me-up. After swiping each side of my face, I spritzed my skin with a hydrating face mist and tapped on an essence with my fingers.

Trader Joe's Formula No. 3 All for One, One for All Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash $24.00

Excited to cut a few minutes from my shower, I went for Trader Joe's do-it-all product—a shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash combo. As someone who has high-maintenance hair, I wasn't expecting miracles. The first thing that struck me was the spa-like scent (bergamot, lemon, sage, clary, ginger, and jasmine), which was helpful to wake me up on a particularly groggy morning. I washed my hair along with my body, and I felt completely sold on the product. When my hair dried, it wasn't as hydrated and bouncy as I'd hoped, but it wasn't terrible either. I'll probably stick to my usual masks and oils, but this is a perfectly suitable product for your hair in a pinch (and your body, always).

Trader Joe's Coconut Body Butter $16.00

This super-creamy body butter was suggested by our editorial director, Faith. To be quite honest, it doesn't take much to get me to go for a coconut product—the scent, the hydrating properties, the daydreams of sandy beaches—I love it all. This one comes in a sizable jar (so it'll last a while) and is a moisturizing blend of coconut oil, shea butter, and vitamin E. I applied it each morning post-shower and every night before bed. I've never been more thoroughly moisturized from head to toe.

I'm pretty particular when it comes to my moisturizer, so I was worried about giving up my go-to. This super-lightweight lotion was a great summer stand-in, as it's never greasy, it's ultra-moisturizing, and it contains SPF. It's also an especially nice formula for sensitive skin, as it's fragrance-free and noncomedogenic.

Make sure to reapply your SPF throughout the day to maintain the UV protection of your skin.

Trader Joe's Nourish Antioxidant Facial Serum $33.00

Packed with anti-aging heavyweights like resveratrol and vitamin C, this serum is not your average grocery store pick. I used it each morning post-shower and pre-moisturizer for an antioxidant boost. My skin ate it up, and I'm hooked. It feels light, absorbs easily, and genuinely makes a difference in the brightness and texture of your skin.
