We’ve always known that in times of high stress and anxiety, indulging in beauty is the opposite of frivolous—it can be a mood-boosting tool, a form of self-care, self-expression, armor, rebellion, comfort, and a simple source of joy. And, from home, we've been able to form new and perhaps more meaningful connections to our own beauty and wellness rituals.

That's exactly what model, actress, dancer, and mother Sydney Schafer has been doing. With grandparents who were part of the circus, some might say Schafer was born to be a performer. And nowadays, as a member of the L.A City Municipal Dance Squad, Schafer joins a group of women who encourage each other to dance without insecurity. Her most recent project, Fool Hardy, is a dance party series directly inspired by her grandparents' circus involvement. The series features burlesque, clowning, miming, and live art (and yes, it's as amazing as it soundscheck out Schafer's Instagram highlights to get a glimpse).

Even though she often works with glam teams when filming and performing, Schafer enjoys doing her own makeupand the looks she creates are as dynamic as she is, ranging from bold red lips to electrifying yellow-green eyeshadow. Ahead, the multi-hyphenate expressive shares a week's worth of colorful (yet wearable) makeup looks as part of our series, Do Try This at Home.

Easy Red Lip Look

I love the classic red lip look—it' timeless and goes with everything in my wardrobe. For this look, I start off with Glossier FutureDew ($24). If there are any blemishes I want to conceal, I use the RMS Concealer ($36). For the brows, I brush with a clear gel by Maybelline. Then I’ll use Glossier Cloud Paint ($18) in pink and my cherry on top is the MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($22).

Grocery Glam

For this look, I focused all my attention on the eyes. The brows were done with Glossier Boy Brow ($16) with a hint of hair spray to keep them in place. I used a MAC Cosmetics white shimmer shadow in my corners and bit under the brow for highlight. For the eyeliner, I used the KVD Beauty Tattoo Liner ($21) to create a cat-eye. Then, I clump on some Marc Jacobs mascara. Under the mask, I kept it simple and used Chapstick’s Cherry Lip Balm ($3). I've used this since I was a child.

Natural Satin Skin with Phreckles

I always start with my eyebrows, and Glossier Boy Brow ($16) is my go-to. For my face, I use Marc Jacob's primer and a hint of Ilia's True Skin Serum Concealer ($30) for darks spot or marks. I’ll add a bit of highlight and bronzer by Kosas and complete with Glossier's Lip Gloss ($14). I wanted to add some fun faux freckles to this look and used PHreckles ($38) in shade 1. My mascara is all-natural and by Lily LoLo. To finish, I spray some Caudalie Beauty Elixir ($49).

Baby Blues

To prep my skin for the sun, I use Obagi Clinical Vitamin C Suncare Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen ($58). Then, I use Youth To The People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Oil ($44) and add RMS Concealer ($36) to my face where needed. My eyebrows are defined with an Anastasia Beverly Hills brow pencil ($23). For my eye shadow, I used MAC Cosmetics Robin's Egg and gave my lashes a curl. For the lips, I use Sun Bum’s Tinted Lip Balm ($8) in Nude Beach. Then I spray a little rose water all over and voilà!

Matte look with Pink Lip

My foundation is by Sephora with SPF 30. I used Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer ($23) for my brows and Glossier Lash Slick ($16) for my lashes. For bronzer, I applied one from Too Faced and used it sparingly to keep a natural look. My shadow is Huda Beauty Nude—I like to focus on the corner of my eyes to give a little dimension. For this look, I like to use a good amount of Laura Mercier powder to get a matte finish. To top off this look, I used MAC Cosmetics Pastel Pink Lipstick Cream.

After a workout, my skin gets a peachy glow. To enhance that, I use lavender witch hazel followed by some Dilo Oil by Kate Somerville ($65). For my eyes, I add a touch of color in the corners—my go-to is MAC Cosmetics' Ruddy Eye Shadow ($17). For my lips, I use Lucas’ Paw Paw Ointment ($12) for a glossy look. Then I’ll spray my entire face with Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist ($48).

Electric Lady

For this look, I always start off with Marc Jacob's primer and the Milk Blur Stick ($36). I go over that with Ilia's True Skin Serum Concealer ($30) and mix it with Youth To The People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream ($58) for light coverage. For the brows, I use Glossier Boy Brow ($16) and lock it in with Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara ($7). For the cheeks, I use Milk Makeup’s Glow Oil in Flare ($15). The shadow I use to create the bright electric green look is a mix of MAC Cosmetic's Robin's Egg and Chrome Yellow ($17). The lipstick I top this look off with is Milk Makeup’s Lip Color ($24) in the shade Wifey.
