Sunnie's Face Fluffmatte Lipstick
Rich color payoff
Smooth texture
Matte finish that isn't drying
No strong fragrance
Reapplication is needed throughout the day
Sunnies Face Fluffmatte lipsticks are the perfect combination of texture and color. They are creamy, matte lipsticks with an excellent range of color options. Although not necessarily long-lasting, the formula is lightweight, making reapplying throughout the day easy.
I'll confess: I haven't always been a lipstick girl. I've admired people who can confidently rock bold reds and pinks, but I've just preferred to play up my eyes in my regular makeup routine. Still, despite loving a bold liner or extreme glitter, I consider myself lipstick curious, keeping my eyes peeled on what's new at stores in hopes of one day trying (and loving) them on myself.
I was intrigued by Sunnie's Face, a Phillipino beauty brand that recently came stateside. The brand is known for its Fluffmatte lipstick, a range of colors that would give the biggest lipstick loather a pause. I liked that the brand prides itself on luxe quality and an affordable price in addition to gorgeous shades for a wide range of complexions.
With fall and the holidays approaching, I wanted to experiment with bold colors that were a step outside of my comfort zone, and I was pleasantly surprised. Keep reading for everything you need to know about the Sunnies Face Fluffmatte Lipstick, including our honest review.

About My Skin: Medium deep complexion and two-toned lips
Finding matte lipsticks—especially nudes—that don't look ashy or unflattering can be challenging for a Black woman. My lips are average-sized and two-toned, full enough that a lip color will make a difference in how I look. I love the natural color of my lips, which might be why lipsticks aren't typically my go-to product except when I look for a nice red to make simple makeup pop.
The Formula: Vivid pigment and velvet texture
Typically I'd finish up most of my makeup looks with a colorless lip balm or a product that matched my natural lip color, but I was willing to step out of my comfort zone. I was able to test most of the colors from the Fluffmatte lineup, and although it did not cure my aversion to nude lipsticks, I was surprisingly drawn to a cool-toned, red hue called Major. This color was reminiscent of MAC's Ruby Woo, one of the best universal reds. I also tried 143, a mauve pink. The color payoff was immediate, and the texture was soft and light.
How to Apply: Lip liner is encouraged, but not necessary
I recommend going in with a lip liner first for those who like the two-toned vibe, but for those who don't, be prepared to go gentle and expect an excellent color payoff. Sometimes, especially with nude colors, you will have to go over the area multiple times for opaque coverage, but not with these.
I didn't line my lips beforehand because I wanted to see how good the color would appear on my darker top lip, and I was surprised at how pigmented they were. After trying a couple of colors, I tested out the color Major and loved it immediately. The richness of the red was the perfect shade for me, so I kept it on. Sadly, the lipstick did not stand a chance against my bubble tea and turkey sandwich for lunch. The color began fading in the middle of my mouth, but the edges were still a bright red. The color didn't disappear entirely; after taking it off, there was still a slight bit of lip stain.
If you want to prevent the color from coming off completely, I recommend going in with a pigmented lip liner first and then going over that with the color.
The Results: Bold, comfy color
Sunnies Face Fluffmatte lipstick went on super smoothly that I almost forgot it was not supposed to have a satin finish. Although the formula lasted only a short time for me, I loved that it was non-drying and fragrance-free.
