Shannon Bauer

Shannon M. Bauer is a New York-based beauty and wellness reporter and currently the Senior Commerce Editor for InStyle, Byrdie, and Shape. She has over seven years experience in the industry. Shannon is also a certified makeup artist. 

For the evergreen commerce team, she works with a team of talented staff and freelance writers to create expert and research-driven product round-ups. She also works closely with the in-house lab to organize tests and use the insights to top edit tested product recommendations and reviews. She has seven years experience writing, editing, and producing beauty and wellness content for top print and digital publications. 

When not on the hunt for the next best mascara, you can find her running in Brooklyn, reading a book, or trying out a new restaurant.

• Shannon joined Beauty & Style Commerce team in April 2022 working across InStyle, Byrdie, and Shape. She has previously been on the print magazine teams at Shape, Parents, and Parents Latina.
• She earned a bachelor’s degree in Creative Apparel Design and minors in Journalism and Business from Iowa State University. She also completed her Professional Makeup Artist Certification from Chic Studios in New York City.
• She has tested hundreds of beauty, fashion, and wellness products and is passionate about being your in-the-know product resource.

Experience

Before this role, Shannon was a beauty editor at Parents, Parents Latina, and Shape print magazines where she wrote and edited beauty stories across the brands and oversaw the testing for the beauty awards programs. 

Shannon seeks out opportunities to be more informed about product science and formulation by interviewing experts, reading studies, and diligently testing any and all products she can get in her hands. She has a special interest in beauty, where she spent the first six years of her career, and also received her Professional Makeup Artist Certification from Chic Studios in 2019. Her work has also appeared on Health and Yahoo.com.

Education

Shannon graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Creative Apparel Design and minors in Journalism and Entrepreneurial Business from Iowa State University. She received her Professional Makeup Artist Certification from Chic Studios in New York City.
