Past struggles with telogen effluvium, a form of temporary hair loss caused by stress, have forced me to research how to tackle growth and achieve overall healthy hair. After scouring the market (and finding few options that helped), I turned to Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, which is done by withdrawing blood, spinning it down to isolate platelets and plasma (the liquid component of blood), and injecting this into the scalp.

While PRP did make my hair grow back quickly, I have to be honest—it's not the most sustainable remedy for me as the treatment is super expensive, a real-time commitment, and it hurts like hell. PRP's final results also don't include adding shine and quelling frizz to existing strands; therefore, my quest for products to help achieve fuller, lustrous strands continued.

I was intrigued when I learned about Ranavat's Mighty Majesty Fortifying Hair Serum ($70), a multi-hyphenate three-ingredient serum to help with hair thinning and dryness. The brand's founder, Michelle Ranavat, created the elixir to address her own postpartum hair loss, and Mighty Majesty has been a hot commodity since.

With most products and treatments that promise hair growth, it's important to remember there's no overnight product or miracle. Many factors contribute to your hair's growth patterns and cycles. Still, some products can aid in the overall health of your hair and scalp, improving conditions for growth. I took Ranavat's serum for a spin to see if it could be a long-term addition to my hair routine. Read more details about the buzzy product, along with an honest review ahead.

The Details

When Ranavat noticed hair loss after giving birth, she turned to the traditional South Asian practices she grew up with, like hair oiling. This weekly ritual helps protect and nourish hair and serves as family bonding time. "One of my fondest memories is visiting India as a child was sitting with my grandmother as she massaged my hair," she says. "It's a ritual I now do with my boys."

Along with oiling, Ranavat protects her strands from the sun and infuses her haircare with botanicals like amla to boost its health. These cultural methods were effective for Ranavat, so she was determined to set her own hair cure into motion. "I was inspired to create a supercharged version of a traditional Indian hair oil using the highest-grade botanical ingredients," Ranavat says.

The formula features amla extract, an Ayurvedic superfood packed with antioxidants, sunflower oil for hydration, and jasmine to promote scalp health. "Not only is jasmine uplifting, but it's also an antibacterial powerhouse," Ranavat explains. "The cold-pressed methods that we use ensure that nutrients are extracted at their highest potency, which gives us a lightweight hair oil that is nourishing and great for daily use."

How to Use It

Ranavat says that the best way to use the serum is to add a few drops in the morning to boost shine, combat frizz, and protect from heat. She also uses it in a weekly hair oiling ritual by massaging it into the scalp, combing it through the ends, and leaving it overnight. Continued use of the serum should result in the appearance of healthier, more lustrous hair over time. Still, it's important to note that you should see a board-certified dermatologist if you are experiencing hair loss or related issues to determine the best plan of action. While applying serums topically may temporarily improve the appearance of your strands, self-treating hair concerns may lead to the unnecessary progression of some conditions. So, if you're concerned about hair loss, speak to your board-certified derm.

My Experience

After a lot of fortunate re-growth from PRP, I was left with tons of flyaways since all of my hair strands grew at different rates. This oil tamed them beautifully, left my hair shiny, and it made the over-processed, dry ends that I refuse to trim off appear more healthy.

There's currently a 3,500-person waitlist for this product, and it keeps selling out for a good reason. "We've gotten great feedback that this leaves hair shiny and healthy," Ranavat says. "We've also gotten feedback from people who have struggled with postpartum and chemotherapy hair loss that this serum has helped them in their hair growth journey." Ranavat has also gotten positive feedback about Mighty Majesty's subtle jasmine scent and lightweight texture that won't weigh down your strands or make them feel greasy.

Similar Products

Ranavat's Mighty Majesty serum is currently available for pre-order, but it sells out quickly. If you're in a pinch for time on the hunt for similar hair products, there are a few we love, too. Luseta Beauty's Rose Oil Hair Serum ($28) has a blend of rosehip, coconut, and castor oils for deep shine and hydration. You can use this as a finishing serum or add a few extra pumps and let it sit on your strands for maximum shine.

Gisou's Honey Infused Hair Oil is a cult favorite with honey as its star ingredient to revive dull hair. You can use the formula on targeted areas of your scalp or slather it on the lengths of your strands if they're feeling dry. Vegamour's Gro Serum claims to deliver thicker strands thanks to phyto-actives like curcumin and red clover. Still, the brand recommends consistent daily use of the product for maximum benefits.

Final Takeaway

The jury is still out whether this serum helped my hair grow fuller (plus, there are so many factors outside of our control that contribute to hair growth and hair loss). It also hasn't been that long of a trial, but in the end, it's been nice to have this as a go-to in my routine when I need a boost of shine and to tame flyaways. I'm excited to see how my hair improves with continued use.
