Fragrance Wardrobe: Lily Aldridge on the Memory That Smells Like Churros

Lily Aldridge

Your perfume isn’t just how you smell—it’s how you feel when you get dressed in the morning, for a night out, or how you remember an experience. At times, it can even feel like an accessory to how you present yourself to the world. With that in mind, we’re launching Fragrance Wardrobe, a new scent series in collaboration with The Fragrance Foundation that highlights the rotating perfume “wardrobes” of our favorite tastemakers. Get to know them better via the scents they hold dear.

It's easy to look at Lily Aldridge and view the launch of her fragrance collection as "just another celebrity product line." But that's not the whole story. Aldridge is a successful model, yes, but she's also an entrepreneur with a penchant for scent. It's proven science that scents are closely tied to human memories, but for Aldridge, the role fragrance has played in her life goes a bit deeper than that. It's wrapped up in her every mood, conversation, and, now, her work week. Oh, did we mention her fragrances smell incredible? This is not the celebrity fragrances of yesteryear, far from it. Aldridge's scents are delicate, sexy, and warm—even a little unexpected.

Below, read all about the scents that continue to linger on in Aldridge's memory. And while you do it, we invite you to consider your own personal fragrance wardrobe.

The fragrance you remember most as a child: "Rosewater spray because that's what I was allowed to spray on myself as a kid. I don't remember the brand because it was so long ago, Whole Foods bought it I think. It was a natural rosewater spray and I loved it."

Your first fragrance: "My first fragrance was Clinique Happy when I was in high school. I feel like every teenage girl of our time wore that one."

The fragrance you associate with falling in love: "Ralph Lauren Polo Blue. That's what my husband wears. So that's what it reminds me of. If I smell it...it's just him."

The fragrance you associate with your favorite travel memory: "The smell of churros at Disney Land."

Your everyday fragrance: "Right now it's Summit because it just launched. It feels like fall and it's so cozy. It's right for this time of year."

Your power fragrance: "I think all fragrances are powerful and they set different moods and tones. I think it's important. I like to have an array of fragrances, that's why I made Haven and Summit so different. That way, you can wear either one based on your mood, whatever it is."

Your after-dark fragrance: "Summit again! But I do like to play with fragrances and mix and match them, and I think that's why scents are so fun and playful. Whatever the mood you're trying to evoke, you find that fragrance for you, and, for me, Summit is sexy and earthy and mysterious. Kind of like a night out."
