An Honest Review of the New Glossier You Solid Perfume

It's always a good day when one of those pale pink bags shows up in our mail room. It means, you guessed it, Glossier has launched a new product, and it's arrived for us to apply, try, and smell. This time, the unboxing was intriguing—I unwrapped the product, loosened the velvet pouch, and pulled out a shiny, weighty pink egg with a fingerprint indentation. Since Valentine's Day is approaching, I instinctively thought it was a travel-size vibrator, but that's beside the point. "It's the solid fragrance," I said out loud to no one and swiveled the sculpted compact open.

The brand launched Glossier You, its first go at fragrance, in September. "It doesn't exactly wear or smell like a perfume… 'Skin smell enhancer' is a better descriptor," the press release says. "Mostly it smells like you: that familiar human-y note that makes up the body of what you're smelling. Creamy, salty, warm, clean. That's You." The notes include ambrette, ambrox, musk, iris root, and pink pepper for an unexpected and shockingly subtle scent.

Now the brand's launched the same fragrance as a solid. I rubbed my finger in the small pot of perfume, and it melted upon contact. It doesn't feel waxy at all, more like a balm or salve you'd use as a universal moisturizer. The smell is the same, that skin-like, simple scent that's made up of primarily base notes so it lingers for longer than you'd expect. I'm quite partial to the solid. It feels warmer and more personal than the regular fragrance bottle. (Plus, you can get it for just $22 as compared to the original $60 for the eau).

It's genuinely hard to describe but certainly something I don't mind smelling like. The whole point is that it smells different on everyone, so you'll just have to pick one up to see what I mean.
