Glamnetic’s Magnetic Lashes Are Actually Foolproof

Despite 10 years working in the beauty industry in some capacity (either as a journalist or behind various department store beauty counters), I have never been able to master false strip lashes. I’ve had many tantrums and ruined many winged liner looks trying to get them affixed to my eyelid—rarely with any success.

And so I resigned to a lifetime of mascara, which is fine… but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t crave the full, fluffy look of an expertly-applied false lash. Enter Glamnetic Magnetic Lashes, a strip lash that adheres to the matching liquid liner using magnetic technology. Usually, I’d be skeptical of a gimmick such as this, but with countless rave reviews and a stellar reputation online, I figured I’d give them a go. Turns out, they’re surprisingly great.

About My Lashes: Long and a little blonde 

I actually had trichotillomania as a kid and pulled out all my eyelashes. Praise be they grew back, and I’ve been pedantic about them ever since. I would describe my eyelashes now as quite long but blonde at the tips. So when I apply mascara, for example, the difference is palpable. As for my actual eyes, I think I’d describe them as almond-shaped. 

The Material: Mink or a vegan alternative

The Glamnetic Magnetic Lashes are a strip lash made from either 100 percent mink or a vegan alternative, depending on the style. The style I used, Livin,’ happened to be mink. I get that that might not sit well with some (and that’s totally fair). Personally, I wish they were synthetic, but I cannot deny the softness and manageability. It is definitely work noting that, according to the brand, the mink is cruelty-free, harvested entirely from mink hairs that were naturally shed.

Everything else about them is standard, except for the fact that there are tiny little magnets attached to the actual strip. The matching Magnetic Liquid Liner also has magnetic technology, so that when the lashes come into contact, they stick together. 

The Styles: Something for everyone

My favorite feature about these lashes is the sheer number of lengths, colors, and styles that are available. There are big, bold options, short fluffy half sets, wispy textures, and everything in between. The brand also takes into account eye shape, whether that’s hooded, almond, deeply set, rounded, or monolid. You can actually take a quiz before purchasing, where you answer a series of questions that will recommend suitable styles at the end. How great is that?

How to Apply: With precision

Herein lies the real test: Getting the lashes on safely and securely (a task that is, in my opinion, easier said than done). I started with a clean eyelid and painted on the Magnetic Liquid Liner. Honestly, I’m not a big eyeliner person, and I wouldn’t say that I have a steady hand, but it went on smoothly and I figured the lash would hide any bumps. You can choose to trim the lash if necessary—I didn’t, but if you do be sure not to snip the magnet. 

Once the liner was 90 percent dry, I used tweezers to place the lash. It didn’t ‘grab’ like a normal set of magnets, but I did feel it connect. It took a little bit of fiddling with the corners, but eventually, I was happy with the placement. You can use little anchor magnets for extra grip, but honestly, I found it too hard and didn’t bother. I will say though, be sure to paint the liner very close to the lash line, or else you’ll end up with a weird gap. 

Once applied, they felt very light and comfortable—presumably due to the lack of sticky glue. The style I used, Livin’, was also very short, wispy, and natural-looking, so I think that helped my case. After an hour of wear, the inner corner lifted slightly, but a tiny drop of additional liner fixed it.

The Results: Fluffy lashes that last

Overall, I was really happy with the results. They were comfortable, stayed attached, and definitely lifted my entire makeup look. Livin’ was perfect for me as well—soft, natural, and wispy. The application was also much, much easier than standard lashes. There was no tacky glue or mess. The only real downside is that you need to go with black eyeliner (as opposed to clear lash glue), but I think it adds to the end result. 

The Value: A worthy investment (if you like them)

According to Glamnetic, each individual strip lash can be used up to 60 times because there’s no glue involved. I’m not sure about this… maybe if you were really, really careful? Either way, I think $30 for even just 10 uses is still pretty reasonable. You do have to buy the liner separately though, so it’s a big expense if you happen to not like them.
