We put the Florasis Floral Engraving Odey Makeup Palette to the test after receiving a complimentary sample from the brand. Keep reading for our full product review.

I confess that I am one of those people who has purchased a beauty product just for its pretty packaging. Maybe you've been there: You see a TikTok or Instagram post and the attractive packaging catches your attention and makes you want to buy the product (even if you don't need it and already have, say, five bronzers). I'll admit that, for the most part, I've been lucky that the products I've gotten have been worth the purchase.

Florasis is a brand with packaging that has caught my eye as of late. A cutting-edge cosmetics company inspired by Lake Xizi (the West Lake) in Hangzhou, China, Florasis delves into the wisdom of ancient beauty routines, passing along the concept of Chinese aesthetics. I tried several of their lipsticks, and the packaging was extremely gorgeous and unlike anything else I'd ever seen.

I knew I needed to test more of their offerings, so I chose the Floral Engraving Odey Makeup Palette. The palette is shaped like a fan (how cool is that?) and is inscribed with the poem "Ode to the Goddess of the Luo River," written by Cao Zhi during the Three Kingdoms Period. So we've established the packaging is lovely; now it's time to evaluate whether or not the actual product is worthwhile. Continue reading to find out.

About My Skin: Dry and often dull

Because of my dry skin, I usually use cream or liquid blushes and highlighters. My typical face routine includes the Saint Jane Beauty Pore Smoothing SPF Sunscreen, which is an SPF and primer in one (I'm guilty of forgetting to put on sunscreen, so a 2-1 is ideal), Nars' Light-Reflecting Foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, highlighter, mascara, and the Too Faced Fluff & Hold Laminating Brow Wax. Overall, my makeup style is bronzed and glowing, but I'm thrilled to explore the colors in this palette (particularly the stunning blue) and branch out.

When it comes to eye makeup, I'm a big fan of neutral and earthy shades. A primer, a matte cream shadow, and a glitter shade are all that I need to complete my typical eye makeup look. It's simple, yet it still gives the impression that I put in the effort.

How to Apply: All over the face

I recommend using one of the matte shades on the eyes as a base, then topping it with a glitter shade. A tip is to wet the brush before applying the glitter shades so that you can get the brightest color outcome. For a more illuminated appearance, fluff a deeper color into the outer corner and crease of your lid, then go back in on the inner corner of your eye with a lighter tone. You can also use one of the glitter shades on the tip of your nose, cheekbones, or over your cupid's bow as a highlighter.

The Results: Gorgeous, glittery looks

What immediately caught my eye about the Florasis Engraving Odey Makeup Palette is its lovely colors. They are smooth to the touch and lightweight. The matte shades appear very vibrant but are not as pigmented on the skin—you have to build up the color by slowly adding more and blending. The glitter hues are fantastic: They look just as dazzling on the skin as they do in the pans, but you do get a better color payoff if you wet your brush prior to applying.

I would note that the matte shades can be tricky to blend out. I didn't love using them as a blush for this reason. The glitter shades lasted all day, but the matte shades faded a bit on my eyes as the hours passed. Nonetheless, I was sad to remove my makeup since the colors were so gorgeous. I created bronze-y and natural eye looks with the brown and gold shades, and colorful looks with red, orange, pink, and blue. My favorite shades are the glitters, and I like to use the gold and pink as highlighters. Plus, the packaging makes this palette truly one-of-a-kind.

The Value: A unique splurge

The Florasis Engraving Odey Makeup Palette costs $59, which is close to the higher-end price range when compared to other palettes on the market. I'd say the pricing is fair given the uniqueness of the packaging and the eyeshadows. The colors are stunning, filled with rich, earthy tones that can be worn day and night. If you're tired of the look of traditional palettes and want to try something new, I believe this palette is definitely worth a try. The glitter shades alone are reason enough to buy this palette, and they can be used as eyeshadow or highlighter, making this a multi-purpose product.

Similar Products: You have options

ColourPop It's a Mood Eye Shadow Palette: ColourPop's It's a Mood Eye Shadow Palette ($34) includes 30 pigmented shades in an extensive color range. It is more budget-friendly than the Florasis Odey Makeup Palette. That being said, It's a Mood is meant only for the eyes, so it is not as multi-functional as the Odey Palette.

NYX Ultimate Utopia 40 Pan Palette : The Ultimate Utopia 40 Pan Palette ($35) by NYX features 40 eyeshadows in a mix of matte and metallic finishes. The color payoff for the shadows is good for the price. It is not a multi-functional product compared to the Florasis Odey Palette, nor does it contain anything quite like the exciting blue shade found in the Odey Palette.

Final Verdict

The Florasis Engraving Odey Makeup palette is just gorgeous. The color scheme is ideal for everyday wear, and the shimmers of aqua, gold, and pink will elevate your makeup looks. The shades are perfect for subtle eye makeup and may be used as a highlighter or blush. The packaging is as impressive as the makeup, with a sophisticated design that is different from any other brand I've seen. If you're seeking a one-of-a-kind palette, I suggest this one.
