We put Dermasuri’s Deep Exfoliating Body Mitt to the test after receiving a complimentary sample from the brand. Keep reading for our full product review.

If you want smooth, soft skin (don’t we all), Dermasuri’s Deep Exfoliating Body Mitt might be exactly what you’re looking for. Instead of relying on body scrubs that exfoliate with sugar, salt, or beads, the exfoliating mitt uses a rough, textured fabric. The skincare brand claims the mitt visibly exfoliates skin to the point that you should see sloughed off skin after you use it. With continued use, it’s intended to also reduce ingrown hairs, clear pores, and keep skin smooth. It’s a lofty claim, but the images Deramsuri shares—of arms covered in gray remnants of the actual skin it’s exfoliated away—are intriguing, if not a little gross.

I exfoliated my skin with the Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Body Mitt to see if it would truly transform my skin as much as it claims.

About the Brand: Dermasuri is a skincare company that creates exfoliating products for the face and body based on multicultural beauty rituals.

About My Skin: Prone to clogged pores

My skin is typically normal, leaning dry or oily depending on the time of the year. I’m prone to ingrown hairs and clogged pores if I’m not careful, so I make sure I exfoliate my skin.

I use a Salux towel regularly, but I find it doesn’t feel exfoliating enough when I want a good scrub. When I really want to exfoliate my skin, I use an exfoliating hand mitt that’s similar to Deramsuri’s, but unfortunately for me, my current option has been discontinued.

The Feel: Super textured and rough

Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Body Mitt

The texture of the Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Mitt Body Scrub is coarse and bumpy, and it feels just as rough when rubbed over skin. It’s not uncomfortable at all, but I feel it has the potential to over exfoliate skin if it’s used too much.

I like that the mitt stays secure on my hand because of the elastic, but I think those with larger hands might have trouble using it.

I like that the mitt stays secure on my hand because of the elastic, but I think those with larger hands might have trouble using it. Though my hands are pretty small, I feel like the opening is tighter than it needs to be.

The Results: Sloughed off skin

Right away, I could tell that the Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Body Mitt was going to do a good job at clearing away rough skin.

I like to use it to apply my body wash for a light exfoliation and cleaning, but for real benefits (and the way it was designed to be used) you shouldn’t use the mitt with any other product. Take a bath or shower and let the warm water and steam soften your skin. After 5 to 10 minutes, get out of the water and rub the mitt up and down wherever you want to exfoliate (without water, soap, or any other product). In just a few strokes, you’ll start to see dead skin cells ball up in little gray masses—a sight that is both disgusting and super satisfying. Depending on where you’re using the product, you might not actually see any dead skin, as how much depends on the buildup in that area.

After a quick rinse to remove the dead skin, my skin feels so much softer and clean. I apply moisturizer immediately after my shower to amp up the effect.

The exfoliating mitt doesn’t just make skin feel soft, though. I found that it can also prevent ingrown hairs and clear clogged pores. It preps my skin for self-tanner application, and leaves it looking glowy. Overall, it’s a welcome addition to my shower routine, and I find it much more efficient to use than a body scrub.

If you’re not careful, you can actually go overboard with this exfoliator. Be careful you’re not concentrating in one spot too much, and be gentle with your skin. I definitely wouldn’t use this every day or even every week. The brand recommends you stick to using the mitt once every two to four weeks.

The Value: Affordable per use

Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Mitt Body Scrub costs anywhere from $15 to $19, depending on where you buy it from. I’ve bought bottles of body scrubs that only last a month for more than this, and they don’t exfoliate anywhere near as well, so the cost makes sense. Per use, the mitt is extremely reasonably priced and absolutely worth the cost.

Compared to similar exfoliating mitts, though, it’s on the higher end. While the results are good, you may be able to find something similar at a more affordable price.

Similar Products: You've got options

Earth Therapeutics Exfoliating Hydro Gloves ($8): These gloves offer a softer exfoliation but with the ease of using both hands. While they aren’t rough enough to physically roll off dead skin, those who are prone to irritation or looking for a milder approach will appreciate them. They are also more affordable.

St. Tropez Tan Build Up Remover Mitt ($7): While St. Tropez's mitt is designed to remove excess self tanner, it works just as well whether you’re prepping for tanner or just want smooth skin. It has a similar texture and fit as the Deramsuri mitt, yet it’s less expensive.

Final Verdict

The Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Mitt Body Scrub truly exfoliates skin—so much that you can see it. With its affordable cost per use and the way it transforms skin, it’s a must-have.
